Dehydration- The body is dehydrated when it does not have enough fluid. In addition to vomiting, overheating from the sun, overworking, and wearing too many layers of clothing, dehydration can also occur from these causes. Dehydration can become deadly in young children especially if it gets worse quickly.
Treatment
Rehydration drinks- Dehydration causes us to lose water. Rehydration replaces this water. Water is lost when we have diarrhea, vomit, and sweat. Therefore, rehydration drinks must contain water. Besides losing nutrients from food, we also lose salt and energy (that we get from sugar, grains, and protein). There are almost no limits to the types of fluids you can prepare at home for rehydration! We also need to replenish these nutrients when rehydrating.
Diabetic Emergencies- Sugars in food are damaged in diabetics as a result of the disease. Diabetes patients can suddenly become ill if their blood sugar levels are too high or too low. Overweight people are more likely to develop diabetes, but anyone can develop it. You should treat someone as if they have low blood sugar if you are unsure if they have high blood sugar, and then take them to the doctor for medical help.
Head Injuries- Keep an eye out for signs of brain injury after falls, injuries sustained in car accidents, and being hit in the head. When the person has been drinking or using drugs, it can be difficult to tell if they have suffered a brain injury because many of these symptoms may be the same. In addition to checking those with head injuries for spine and neck injuries, these can occur together.
Next to do- Keep an eye on the person at all times. If your child goes to sleep, wake him/her every few hours to see if he/she is still able to answer questions. If the person becomes more confused, gets a headache that gets worse, loses consciousness, or has a seizure in the hours following the injury, there is likely bleeding inside the skull and medical assistance is needed immediately.
Mental Health Emergency- It is frightening for the person experiencing sudden changes in thinking, behavior, and hallucinations, as well as those around them. People who feel bad or who have a negative opinion of themselves or others need help quickly when they feel the need to hurt themselves or others.
Next to do- When an emergency occurs, you must first check your breathing, stop any bleeding and assess your physical condition.
